Passed away peacefully in his 99th year,
on Tuesday November 12 2013
with his loving son Ray by his side.
Born October 4, 1915 in Restoule, Ontario
to parents George and Effie Ratz.
Left to cherish Vernon’s life are
his daughter Veryl (Dennis Krout),
and son Ray.
Predeceased by his wife Olga
and his daughter Donna (Jim Petty).
Grandchildren Christopher (Kelly), Tonya (Marcel),
Colin (Tracy), Janis (Shane).
Great grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas,
Braydon, Eric.
He had a special rapport with young and old.
“Just call me Grandpa” he would say.
He met people with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
Family and friends are left with the gift of his humour,
generosity and loyal friendship.
He worked for 18 years as a bridge foreman
for the Department of Highways. He retired in 1980
With his wife Olga, he traveled extensively
and was a snowbird in Florida.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years,
and a long time member of the Lions Club.
He was an active member and vice president of Minor Hockey,
volunteer driver for the Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels.
Vernon loved life and family. Thanks for the memories.

Ruth Valerie Pickering (nee Wood) was born in Wilnecote, England toMartha Emma Wood and James William Wood.Predeceased by siblings Bill, Stanley ‘Digger’,Vincent, Lionel ‘Tich’ and Annie.Also predeceased by sister-in-law Josie, nephews Haydnand Kevin and great nephew Phillip.Ruth married the love of her life, Barry, on June 12, 1952.Together they raised their childrenJohn, Kim (Brian), Diane (Ross), and Lynn (Brian).Ruth was ‘Nana’ to her loving grandchildrenEmily, Scott, Barry, Julia, David,Valerie, Jenna, John and Liam.She had a great sense of adventure.Ruth emigrated to Canada with Barry and her young familyin 1957, in search of a better life.They enjoyed camping, cottaging, boating and farming. In later years,mom shared a beautiful retirement with Barry on Fairy Lake and Panama City Beach.Mom had a great love of her family. In her last days she spoke longingly for her extendedfamily in England and New Zealand.
